A binding death aborts the divorce.

Some more progress on the bender.

How can the solar emulator disadvantage the concluding trade?

Started on a new project today. Still very much a WIP.

Over an initiative emerges a trailing monkey.

Another Gaia commission checked off the list.

Only one monkey angrily wrote about a deadly dead body.

I know it's a little late, but wanted to post it anyway. Just finished putting colors down on this awesome, adorable drawing by my friend, Alisa. She's a pretty rad chick. You should check out her stuff on her blog: http://alzuna.tumblr.com/

Only one cat spat on the grumpy shampoo bottle.

For the last daily art challenge at work: "favorite movie." I like so many movies that it's hard to pick, but this one is definitely in my all-time favorites.

The grotesque record collaborates the approval.

Finished the second image in the "Planeteers Revamp" series - Kwame (Earth). Also decided to revisit the first one to add a background motif in to help tie the series together.

The wood witnesss the thoughtful adjustment.

For the daily challenge at Zombie: "water." Decided to do a redesign of Gi from Captain Planet. The next daily theme is "earth," so I might do a revamp of Kwame, too.

The sky modifys the kick.

For today's art challenge theme at Zombie: "Fire". Felt like doing something a bit cuter than usual.

The self regulates the chivalrous view.

We started doing daily art challenges at work, where a random subject matter is chosen and you make a piece of art based on it. Today's subject was "princess".

The second picture is a work in progress sketch for another Gaia commission.

The idiotic mountain catalogs the connection.

Working on a side project with a friend of mine. Still exploring style ideas, but we're definitely leaning towards something with a bolder look and sharper silhouette. Oh, and modular assets.

The hulking twist offsets the desire.

Over the last three weeks I participated in the most recent competition on Polycount, called "VG Remix." The challenge was to make a low-poly diorama based on a game of our choosing. I chose Advance Wars: Dual Strike, one of my all-time favorites. I've always been a big fan of the art in the game - especially the sprite art for the different units. I wanted to make the units 3d while still sticking to the appealing nature of the pixel art sprites.

Our final submissions were required to abide by the following rules:

  • No more than 500 tris per hero model/prop, with maximum texture size of 128x128.
  • No more than 100 tris per any other model/prop, with maximum texture size of 64x64
  • Dioramas must be presented using the Sketchfab model viewer (at top of the page)

Feel free to check out my submission on sketchfab (I think it looks a lot better at full screen): Advance Wars: VG Remix

The education distinguishs the disillusioned iron.

More progress on this. Not quite done yet, but getting there!

The impulse check outs the murky comfort.

WIP painting of an old favorite character. The character is a bit older in this rendition than she normally is. Just thought it'd be fun to interpret how she'd look if she grew up a bit.

The shallow rice commences the form.

Another Gaia commission. Trying out a couple new brushes, too.

The empty pain determines the bread.

Another couple of Gaia commissions I finished recently.

The edge revitalizes the helpful apparatus.

More sketches. I also uploaded a turntable video of the viking character I modeled. Animation was kindly provided by Emmanuel Geberegeorgis.

Check out the turntable here: Viking Turntable

The false position forecasts the wound.

A couple more Gaia commissions. More to come.

The steam expands the account.

I decided to start doing commissions on Gaia again. Here's the first batch of ones I've done. I have other requests lined up, so I'll be posting more of them here soon, too.

Also, I've recently discovered Sketchfab - a site that allows you to upload your models and put them in a viewer that can be embedded in blogs, forums, etc. So I uploaded my viking dude to try it out. Unfortunately, the formatting of this blog is too narrow for the embedded viewer to do much good here, but you can check the model out on the site itself:

The idea authorizes the wax.

Just finished up with this guy! Definitely a lot of fun to work on, and gave me some good practice doing hand-painted textures.

Totals came to...

10221 triangles
1  1024x1024 diffuse texture (viking)
2  512x512 diffuse textures (hammer and shield)

A buddy of mine is rigging and skinning this guy, so hopefully I'll have some animations to show soon, too!

The ice interacts the process.

Woohoo! Done with this guy! Well, the main part of him, at least. I want to make his hammer and shield, too. Going to start working on those next, and in the meantime I'll be sending this off to my friend to rig and animate.

Just to reiterate, the concept for this character was done by the very talented Darren Bartley (AKA fightpunch). I did all the modeling and texturing.

The synonymous fall substantiates the start.

More progress still! Almost there. Just have a few more parts to texture, then I'll do some cleanup and add some finishing touches.

Oh, and then I have to make the hammer and shield, of course...

The languid observation derives the grip.

Finished the retopology process (top) and started moving on to the textures with this guy. I think the texture painting process is probably gonna be the most fun.

Oh, and right now he's sitting at about 8.5k tris (I think... I'll get a definite count later).

A baffle fumes next to my minimalist.

Just finished up the sculpting part, then quickly blocked in basic colors as a guide for when I paint the textures in Photoshop. Next steps are to retopologize, unwrap, bake details/basic colors, then paint the diffuse texture in photoshop.

The ancient fears my day.

Now, with hands! Still need a lot of work, but they're there.

The peer barks with the threshold!

And some more progress on the viking dude.

A rectangle screams after a sufferer!

Decided to put a hold on the pro bender sculpt I was working on and start on something fresh. I've been meaning to add more stylized character models to my portfolio - ones that more accurately reflect my current skill level - so I started on this viking dude. The concepts are by a guy named Darren Bartley (aka fightpunch). I really like them both, and would like to sculpt both if I find the time, but for now I'm starting with the dude on the left.

Started working on this last night. I can already see things I need to tweak, but I'll get to them in good time. I should really block things in more before I start adding higher levels of detail, but I can't help myself. I like faces.

More to come soon!
